"Anything is Possible, One Stroke at a Time."
This website is less about selling artwork as it is about introducing others to this wonderful art form. My passion is in that others may derive the many benefits of this Zen-like art method. Classes are held regularly in my home, initially with the "Beginning Basics Class". After that required foundation setting introductory class, many students visit regularly to build upon the skills they have learned and produce beautiful pieces of art. Most students enjoy this for their own meditative down time, as gifts, or to display in their own homes. A step by step art form, Zentangle is a technique designed so that anyone can achieve gratifying results. We explore more advanced projects, while still applying the Zentangle method.
The atmosphere is calm, friendly, relaxing, and shared by classmates who enjoy the activity regularly.
A typical three plus hour class is available for parties and includes most all the materials necessary to complete the class. Brunch is always included...often augmented by contributions from fellow classmates.
My name is Kim VanZyll, I live in Carson City, Nevada with my husband of 44 years. I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher of Class 16. I discovered the art method Zentangle about 10 years ago. An immediate connection took me back to my high school years of pen and ink and pencil drawings!

In the beginning I taught myself the method staying true to the philosophies of the founders, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. I went on to become a Certified Zentangle Teacher October of 2014 in Providence, Rhode Island. I have taught over 100 Zentangle classes to students ranging in age from 7 to 90 years old! My passion is watching the "artist within" come out and shine. I like to challenge myself by applying the Zentangle method to a variety of surfaces. I am always on the lookout for unique items to tangle!

Along this journey my own talents developed and improved to where I felt validated as an artist. I have since participated in several art exhibitions and craft shows, been selected as a featured artist at the St. Mary's Art Center Gallery and had a month long showing of my art and 17 of my students art at a local restaurant. I was nominated as a feature artist along with a handful of other artists to turn old vintage school desks from 1910 into unique pieces of art. These were sold by silent auction as a fundraiser for the Fourth Ward School in Virginia City, Nevada. I'm proud mine was the 2nd highest bid of $500.

I had the privilege of teaching 130 of my peers the Linen Canvas technique at "Tangle University" in Portland Oregon, an unexpected early highlight of my career as a Zentangle artist.
I am humbled and honored to have my work on display in two exhibitions in Ireland. I was graciously received at Ireland's Co. Cork Tangle Seminar as an instructor. An enthusiastic, fun group and beautiful personal experience in a place I had hoped to visit with my son, Zach for two decades.
Another very special recognition was having my drawings included in a Zentangle book,
Titled, "Tangle-Inspired Botanicals" by Sharla R. Hicks, CZT. You can also find my contributions in," A Zentangle Collection of Reticula and Fragments" by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.
I am a member of the Nevada Artist Association Gallery, in Carson City, Nevada. This venue has allowed me to exhibit my work and teach on site classes. I have also won several ribbons for art pieces entered in the Gallery's art shows.

I have worked in the mental health and substance abuse field for Carson Tahoe Hospital, for more than 16 years. I love to introduce Zentangle to anyone needing a distraction from their depression, pain, anxiety, and addiction. This art method has changed the lives of many, including myself and my husband. I for-see spending the rest of my life teaching, developing, expanding upon, and enjoying my craft.
